A dermatologist’s take

Eh.

A strong benzoyl peroxide wash with nothing in it to soften the blow. It kills acne bacteria without breeding resistance, but 5% is drying and there are no ceramides among these seven ingredients. Its own Drug Facts panel warns off very sensitive skin. CeraVe's 4% version is the gentler buy.

Benzoyl peroxide is antibacterial. Blackheads and closed bumps are plugs of dead cells with no bacteria behind them, so BP barely touches them.

Rosacea bumps read as acne, so this wash gets tried on them. At 5%, benzoyl peroxide irritates skin that flushes; expect more redness, not less.

Benzoyl peroxide releases oxygen inside the pore, and this bacterium cannot survive oxygen. That is why bacteria never build resistance to it, and why dermatologists still reach for it first.

This wash delivers it at 5%, near the top of what is sold without a prescription. Higher is not better. Many people do just as well on 4% or lower with less dryness, and the strength you can use every day beats the strongest one on the shelf.

The whole formula is seven ingredients. Very little to react to, and nothing protecting your barrier while a drying active works. The moisturizer afterward does the job the formula leaves out.

Dryness and peeling in the first two weeks are normal. Inflamed spots settle over four to six weeks. It removes light makeup and most sunscreen; heavy or water-resistant sunscreen needs an oil cleanse first.
