Recommend.
A leave-on salicylic acid that clears blackheads and clogged pores on oily skin. Because it stays on rather than rinsing off, it does far more than a salicylic acid cleanser. Use it two or three nights a week; daily strips your barrier. Cheaper 2% liquids perform much the same.

Oily Skin
Good fitSalicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it mixes into the sebum already inside a pore instead of sitting on the surface. That is why it suits oily skin better than glycolic acid.

Comedonal Acne
Okay fitA blackhead is a plug of dead cells and hardened oil, and the dark tip is that plug oxidizing in air, not dirt. This gets into the plug and loosens it.
Give it about six weeks.
Keratosis Pilaris
Okay fitThe rough bumps on the upper arms are plugs of keratin in hair follicles, the same blockage. This does loosen them, though a urea or lactic acid lotion is cheaper and works better on the body.
Inflammatory Acne
Poor fitSalicylic acid clears the plug inside a pore, so it suits blackheads and closed bumps. It does little against the bacteria and inflammation behind red, sore spots.
Benzoyl peroxide or a prescription does that.
Melasma
Poor fitSalicylic acid works inside the pore, not on pigment cells, and acid alone can inflame melasma and set it back.
Dry Skin
Poor fitBHA is made to clear oily pores. On dry, tight skin it adds flaking rather than smoothing.

It is closer to water than to a serum. It spreads instantly and a few drops go a long way.
Most people feel a mild sting for about thirty seconds, and considerably more if the skin is already irritated or freshly shaved. It dries down slightly tacky, settles within a minute, and everything layers over it normally. It is fragrance free.

Salicylic acid suits pores because it is oil-soluble. It dissolves into oil, so it travels into a greasy, blocked pore and breaks the plug up from the inside. Glycolic acid and the other alpha hydroxy acids are water-soluble and work on the flat surface, better for tone and rough texture than for blackheads. Salicylic acid is also related to aspirin, so it calms an angry spot as well as unblocking it.
Leaving it on is the second half. This stays on for hours, where a salicylic acid cleanser rinses away in under a minute.

How much
A few drops on a cotton pad or your fingers, over clean, dry skin. Leave it on.
Careful
Build up slowly. Do not add a night until the current schedule causes no stinging, keep it off retinoid nights until your skin is adapted, and wear sunscreen every morning — an acid leaves fresh skin at the surface, and it burns faster.
Watch out
Lasting redness, tight shiny skin, or products that suddenly sting mean too much. Stop for a week, then go back at half the frequency.
What to expect
Smoother texture within a week or two. Blackheads take about six weeks. Some people break out more at first as existing plugs surface, and that settles.
