Top things to know about Supergoop! Poof 100% Mineral Part Powder
- Supergoop! Poof 100% Mineral Part Powder is an SPF 35 mineral sunscreen in loose powder, in a bottle with a shaker top so you can dust it along a hair part. About $30 to $38, fragrance free. It is for the scalp only, not a face powder and not a stand-in for lotion anywhere your hands reach.
- The only filter is zinc oxide at 24.7%, which sits on the surface and absorbs and scatters ultraviolet light rather than sinking in. Silica, boron nitride and nylon carry the powder and keep it from clumping, and iron oxides tint it so it does not read as white.
Supergoop! Poof Part Powder gets zinc onto the hair part, among the most burned and least protected skin on the body. Powders under-deliver on SPF, and through hair you cannot tell what landed, but on a part the honest alternative is nothing. Do not extend that logic to your face, where a lotion reaches.

Skin fit
Is it right for your skin?
Sunburn
The hair part burns more than almost any strip of skin on the body. It faces straight up, nothing shades it, and nobody puts lotion there. Supergoop! Poof puts zinc oxide onto it in about ten seconds.
Sun Damage
Damage from light is cumulative, and the scalp collects it on ordinary days, not just at the beach. Skin cancers turn up on the scalp regularly. Covering it imperfectly beats not covering it at all.
Female Pattern Hair Loss
A widening part exposes a strip of skin that has never had much sun and no tolerance for it. A shaker top aims straight down that line, and powder does not leave hair greasy the way a mist can.
Male Pattern Hair Loss
Thinning at the crown leaves skin exposed at the angle the sun hits hardest, and you cannot see it in the mirror. Powder is easier to apply blind than lotion. On a fully bald scalp a lotion covers far better.
Texture
What it feels like on skin.
Powder
A fine, loose, tinted powder that comes out of a shaker top a puff at a time. It feels dry and faintly gritty for a moment, then disappears into the hair, without weighing it down or leaving it greasy — its advantage over a scalp mist. The tint keeps a white line off most hair colors, though very dark hair may dull slightly. It is fragrance free. The shaker top is messy in wind, and squeezing the bottle instead of tapping sends powder everywhere.
Alternatives
If this isn’t the right product for you
Sun Hat UPF 50
For long hours in real sun, a wide brim covers the scalp better and never needs reapplying. Look for a 2 to 3 inch brim.
COOLA Sunscreen Mist
Also made for the scalp and part line, with real UV filters and 80 minutes of water resistance. It contains fragrance and can leave hair greasy.
Supergoop! (Re)setting Powder
The same zinc powder idea for the face, brushed over makeup. A midday top-up, never your only sun protection.

How to use it
How to use it.
How to apply it
- WhereAlong the part line, the hairline and any thinning patch. For skin your hands reach, use a lotion — it covers far better.
- How muchMore than feels right. Powders go on far thinner than the layer an SPF is tested at, so dust a visible layer, tap it in, then part again and repeat.
- ReapplyEvery two hours outdoors, and after sweating or swimming. Powder tops up easily over dry hair.
- CarefulDo not inhale it. Tap it out low and close to the scalp.
What to expect
- What to expectNo feel, no residue, no way to tell it is working. On a long day in real sun a hat protects better.
