Top things to know about RoC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream

  1. RoC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream is a plain, fragrance-free cream for the eye area, around $25. It is sold as a retinol treatment for lines, puffiness and dark circles. Retinol is the 21st ingredient of 23.
  2. Most of the tube is a basic moisturizer: water, glycerin, emollient esters and stearate emulsifiers. Retinol sits below the preservatives, a trace level, and RoC will not disclose the concentration. It also contains isopropyl myristate, a known pore-clogger, and BHT.
Not recommended

This is sold entirely on retinol, and retinol is 21st of 23 ingredients, below preservatives that are used under 1%. That is a trace. Dark circles and puffiness have almost no cream-based evidence either. Use a fragrance-free moisturizer around the eye and a real retinol on your face.

Skin fit

Is it right for your skin?

Good fit

Sensitive Skin

Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the body, as little as 0.2 to 0.5 mm, which is why it stings so easily and why fragrance causes more trouble there. This cream is fragrance-free, and that is genuinely the best thing about it. As a bland, cheap cream for the eye area, it works.

Not ideal

Dark Circles Under Eyes

Dark circles have four causes and a cream reaches one. Pigment, from genetics, sun or rubbing, is the treatable one, and retinoids, vitamin C and niacinamide each have a modest case. Veins showing through thin skin are anatomy. A tear trough hollow is a shadow. Congestion from allergies is the free fix — treat the allergy, stop the rubbing. This is advertised for dark circles with retinol 21st of 23, so there is very little of the one thing that could help.

Not ideal

Sun Damage

Retinol has real evidence for fine lines, including around the eye, and few ingredients do. Dose is the problem. Ingredients above 1% must be listed in descending order, and preservatives are used below 1%, so retinol below the preservatives is a trace. For lines around the eye, a fragrance-free retinol with a disclosed dose is the more honest route.

Texture

What it feels like on skin.

Cream

A plain, light cream that absorbs and leaves nothing behind. It sits under makeup without pilling, and stays put on the orbital bone. Fragrance-free, which matters more around the eye than anywhere else.

Holds waterKeeps the product working

  1. The base the other ingredients are dissolved in. Most of it evaporates soon after the product goes on.

  2. A small humectant. It moves into the outer layer of skin and holds water there.

  3. A thickener that gives the product its texture.

  4. The preservative. It stops bacteria and mold from growing in the product.

  5. Helps the preservative work and softens the feel of the product.

  6. Binds minerals in the water so the preservative works better and the formula stays stable.

Every day

How to apply it

  1. How muchAbout a grain of rice for both eyes. More does not help, and it raises the chance of it creeping into the eye.
  2. CarefulRetinol irritates thin eyelid skin, so add nights one at a time and stop if the lids go red or flaky. Sunscreen the next morning is part of it. It contains isopropyl myristate, so skip it if you get clogged pores or bumps around the eyes.
Over time

What to expect

  1. What to expectVery little. The retinol is a trace, so any smoothing is slight and slow. It will not touch puffiness or dark circles.
