Juvederm vs Jeuveau
One fills, the other relaxes. Jeuveau is a botulinum toxin. It softens the vertical frown lines between the brows by relaxing the muscle that pulls them in. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid gel that replaces lost volume, so it is for hollow cheeks, folds, thin lips and a soft jawline.

A lip plumper mildly irritates the lip so it swells for a few hours. That is not the same as placing a gel under the skin.

What the trials show
Jeuveau
Jeuveau was tested against Botox Cosmetic instead. 540 people were given Jeuveau, Botox Cosmetic or placebo for frown lines. At day 30, 87% responded on Jeuveau, 83% on Botox Cosmetic and 4% on placebo.
That trial was built to show Jeuveau is not worse, not that it is better. The gap between the two brands was small enough to include no difference at all. So do not read 87% against 83% as Jeuveau winning.
The fine print
Juvederm
Each Juvederm gel carries its own approval, its own area and its own trial numbers. Voluma XC: cheeks (2013), chin (2020), temples (2023). Ultra XC: facial wrinkles and folds, plus lips (2015). Volbella XC: lips and lines around the mouth (2016), under-eye hollows (2021). Vollure XC: facial wrinkles and folds. Volux XC: jawline definition (2022). Skinvive: cheek smoothness (2023) and neck lines (2026). A figure from one does not apply to another. Volbella XC in the lips ran at 80.3% improved at 3 months and 61.8% at 12 months.
Juvederm gels are approved as devices, not as drugs. They are Class III devices approved through the FDA's premarket approval (PMA) route, which required evidence for one named area at a time. In laboratory testing, Juvederm gels needed 300 units of hyaluronidase to degrade within an hour.
Jeuveau
Jeuveau is approved for glabellar lines only. The FDA approved it on 1 February 2019 for moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. The label dose is 20 Units, given as 4 Units at each of five sites, and the label states that "Potency Units of JEUVEAU are not interchangeable with other preparations of botulinum toxin products." Jeuveau holds no US approval for forehead lines, crow's feet or any other cosmetic area. Daxxify and Letybo are also glabellar-only.
Jeuveau's pivotal trial was funded by Evolus, which makes it. The men-only analysis was a subgroup of that same sponsor-funded trial, with 25 men in one arm and 31 in the other. Separately, laboratory work found onabotulinumtoxinA showed 1.33 to 1.51 times higher activity than prabotulinumtoxinA across three assays; that work was aligned with Allergan, maker of the competing product.
Compare the total cost
Juvederm
Ask which Juvederm filler, treatment area and number of syringes the quote covers. Include follow-up and touch-ups.
Jeuveau
Ask for the complete Jeuveau treatment price for the planned muscles and dose. A toxin unit price cannot be compared directly with a filler syringe price.

Is Jeuveau better than Botox?
That is not what its trial showed. The 540-person Phase III study was a non-inferiority design, which can only show a product is not worse than the comparator by more than a set margin. Day-30 responder rates were 87.2% for Jeuveau and 82.8% for Botox Cosmetic, a 4.4% difference with a confidence interval running from -1.9 to 10.8 - a range that includes no difference at all. The trial was sponsored by Evolus, which makes Jeuveau.
What is Jeuveau actually approved for?
Moderate to severe glabellar lines - the frown lines between the eyebrows - and nothing else. It was approved on 1 February 2019 at a label dose of 20 Jeuveau Units, given as 4 Units at each of five sites.
Can Jeuveau be used on my forehead or crow's feet?
Not as an approved use. Jeuveau's US cosmetic indication covers glabellar lines only. Botox Cosmetic has held a lateral canthal line indication since 2013 and a forehead line indication since 2017, and Xeomin added a combined upper facial lines indication in 2024. Off-label use is legal and routine, but the approvals are worth knowing.
Can Juvederm and Jeuveau be used together?
They treat different problems, so combining them is common. Small randomized trials of a botulinum toxin plus a hyaluronic acid filler have reported better results than either alone in the lower face, and a longer-lasting effect in the forehead and glabella. None of those trials used Jeuveau by name.
Which lasts longer?
No trial has compared them, and Juvederm is a family, so there is no single number on that side either. Juvederm Voluma XC had 67.1% of treated subjects still meeting a one-grade improvement at 24 months, which is where the trial stopped. Jeuveau's approved indication describes a temporary improvement.
Are 20 Units of Jeuveau the same as 20 Units of Botox?
No. Jeuveau's label says its potency units are not interchangeable with other botulinum toxin products, and every other brand's label says the same about its own. Laboratory testing found onabotulinumtoxinA had 1.33 to 1.51 times the activity of prabotulinumtoxinA across three assays, though that comparison came from a source aligned with Allergan.
Which one can be dissolved if I do not like the result?
Juvederm can, because it is hyaluronic acid and the enzyme hyaluronidase breaks it down - although that use is off-label in the US, there is no standardized dose, and Juvederm gels needed higher enzyme doses than several other fillers in laboratory testing. Jeuveau cannot be reversed, but it wears off.
Safety to keep in mind
Dissolving filler is an off-label use in the US. The FDA labeling for Hylenex lists three indications, and dissolving filler is not one of them.
