Halo vs Morpheus8

Halo is better for colour: sun spots, uneven tone, dullness and fine lines. It is a laser that resurfaces the top of the skin, usually one or two sessions, with about a week of peeling. Morpheus8 is better for acne scars, rough texture and mild laxity, because its needles place radiofrequency heat below the surface. Surface colour or deeper tightening is the whole decision, and plenty of people end up having both, months apart.

Halo

A hybrid fractional laser It sends light into thousands of tiny columns in the skin. Some columns are treated deeply, some gently, in the same pass.

What it is

Halo

A hybrid fractional laser

It sends light into thousands of tiny columns in the skin. Some columns are treated deeply, some gently, in the same pass.

Morpheus8

Radiofrequency microneedling

Fine needles deliver radiofrequency heat below the skin's surface. No light is involved.

What you do

Halo

Numbing cream, then one pass over the face

Usually one session, sometimes two. The treatment itself takes about half an hour.

Morpheus8

A course of about three sessions

Roughly a month apart, with numbing cream each time.

What you'll see

Halo

Brighter, more even colour

Sun spots fade, tone evens out and the skin looks glossier. Fine lines soften.

Morpheus8

Smoother texture and a firmer edge

It works on texture, acne scars and mild laxity at the same time.

What it will not do

Halo

It does not tighten loose skin

The energy is concentrated in the upper layers. Jowls and a soft jawline are not its job.

Morpheus8

It does not clear sun spots

Radiofrequency heats tissue and ignores pigment, so brown patches stay where they are.

How long until it works

Halo

About a week for glow, months for the rest

The skin looks better once the peeling finishes. Colour keeps improving for a few weeks after that.

Morpheus8

About three months

Results build steadily as new collagen forms after the last session.

How long it lasts

Halo

Often a year or more

Sun exposure is the main thing that undoes it. New spots appear if you stop using sunscreen.

Morpheus8

Around one to two years

Many people book a single top-up session about once a year.

Downtime

Halo

Redness, then several days of peeling

The face is red and hot for two to three days, then goes rough and flakes for a few more. Expect roughly a week before you look normal.

Morpheus8

A few days of redness and small marks

Pink skin with a faint grid of pinpoint dots. Make-up usually covers it by day three.

Skin tone

Halo

Tone matters here

Halo is light-based, so it interacts with pigment. On deeper skin tones there is more risk of a patch going darker while it settles, and settings have to be dialled back.

Morpheus8

Tone matters less

Radiofrequency is generally considered safer across skin tones than light-based devices because it heats rather than targeting pigment.

Cost

Halo

Priced per session, and there are few

One or two sessions, so the total is easier to pin down.

Morpheus8

Priced per session, and it is a course

Ask for the price of the whole plan rather than one visit.

The at-home or drugstore version

Halo

Creams do part of the colour job

Retinoids, vitamin C and daily sunscreen fade sun spots slowly. They are genuinely useful, but they work on the surface only and take months.

Morpheus8

A home roller is not the same thing

It pricks the surface with much shorter needles and adds no heat. Home radiofrequency wands warm the surface and never reach the depth a clinic device works at.

The decision is above or below

Halo

Halo works on the top of the skin. Colour, dullness, sun damage and fine crepey lines all live there. If you look in the mirror and the problem is what shade your skin is, Halo is the treatment aimed at that.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 works below the surface. Acne scars, rough texture and skin that has lost its firmness sit deeper, in the dermis. Heat placed at that level is what makes the skin contract and rebuild.

Skin tone changes the balance

Halo

Halo is light-based, so your skin tone is part of the plan. Light treatments carry a risk of the treated skin going darker afterwards, and that risk is higher for deeper skin tones. It is manageable with careful settings and a test patch, but it is a real conversation to have.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 does not target pigment. It heats tissue instead, so it is generally considered safer across skin tones. Careful settings still matter.

Common questions

Questions Patients Ask

Which is better, Halo or Morpheus8?

Halo for sun spots, uneven tone and dullness. Morpheus8 for acne scars, rough texture and mild laxity. They treat different depths, so neither replaces the other.

Can I have Halo and Morpheus8 together?

Not in the same visit. Both make the skin repair an injury, so clinics space them out, usually by a month or more.

Which has more downtime?

Halo. Expect redness then several days of peeling, roughly a week in total. Morpheus8 gives a few days of redness and small pinpoint marks.

Does Halo work on acne scars?

It helps mild, shallow scarring and the discolouration left behind. Deeper, pitted scars respond better to something that reaches the dermis, such as Morpheus8.

Is Halo safe on deeper skin tones?

It is light-based, so it interacts with pigment and carries more risk of a patch going darker afterwards. It can still be done, with lower settings and a test area first.

How many sessions does each need?

Halo is usually one session, sometimes two. Morpheus8 is a course of about three, roughly a month apart.

Safety to keep in mind

RF microneedling can cause serious injury. The FDA has received reports of burns, scarring, loss of fat, nerve damage and disfigurement. Some injuries have needed surgery or other medical treatment. A few days of expected redness is not the full risk picture.

Choose a licensed medical professional trained on the device. Discuss the risks and other treatment options before deciding. RF microneedling should not be done at home.
