Attiva vs Morpheus8

Attiva passes a fine probe under the skin and heats the tissue from the inside. The surface is never needled, so there are no marks to hide, but it does nothing for texture. Morpheus8 uses needles to place radiofrequency heat below the surface, so it treats texture, acne scars and mild laxity at the same time. Attiva is usually one visit for firmness alone; Morpheus8 is a course that also improves the skin you can see.

What it is

Attiva

Radiofrequency from a probe under the skin

A thin probe is slid through a tiny entry point and warms the tissue from underneath while a sensor watches the temperature.

Morpheus8

Radiofrequency through needles

Fine needles pass through the skin's surface and deliver heat below it.

What you do

Attiva

Usually one visit, with local anaesthetic

The area is numbed, a small entry point is made, and the probe is passed back and forth beneath the skin. It takes about an hour.

Morpheus8

A course of about three sessions

Numbing cream, then passes over the area, roughly a month apart.

What you'll see

Attiva

A firmer jawline, neck and under-chin

It is a tightening treatment. The change shows in the outline of the face, not in the surface of the skin.

Morpheus8

Smoother skin and a firmer edge

It works on texture, acne scars and mild laxity together.

What it will not do

Attiva

It does nothing for surface texture

The surface is never treated. Pores, rough texture and acne scars are left exactly as they were.

Morpheus8

It does not lift a heavy jowl

It tightens skin. Skin that truly hangs needs surgery.

How long until it works

Attiva

Two to three months, sometimes longer

Swelling settles first. The firming builds slowly as collagen forms.

Morpheus8

About three months

Results build over roughly three months after the last session.

How long it lasts

Attiva

Often over a year

Usually done once rather than repeated yearly.

Morpheus8

Around one to two years

Many people book a single top-up session about once a year.

Downtime

Attiva

Nothing to see, but swelling underneath

No redness, no marks and no scabs, because the surface is untouched. Expect swelling and sometimes bruising for several days, and a firm or lumpy feel that settles over weeks.

Morpheus8

A few days of redness and small marks

Pink skin with a faint grid of pinpoint dots. Make-up usually covers it by day three.

What it feels like

Attiva

Numb during, tight and sore after

Local anaesthetic is used, so you feel pressure and movement rather than heat. Tenderness lasts a few days.

Morpheus8

Pressure, heat and pinpricks

Numbing cream first. The skin feels hot and sore for a few hours.

Cost

Attiva

Priced as a single procedure

Usually one price for one visit. Ask whether the anaesthetic and follow-up are included.

Morpheus8

Priced per session, and it is a course

Ask for the price of the whole plan.

The at-home or drugstore version

Attiva

There is no home version at all

Nothing sold for home use goes under the skin. A handheld radiofrequency wand warms the surface and cannot reach the layer this works in.

Morpheus8

A home roller is a different thing

It pricks the surface with much shorter needles and adds no heat.

Inside out, or outside in

Attiva

Attiva works from under the skin. The heat is delivered where the skin meets the fat below it, which is the layer that pulls tight as it heals. Because nothing is done to the surface, nothing on the surface changes.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 works from above. The needles cross the surface to reach the layer underneath, so the skin gets treated on the way through. That is why texture and acne scars improve with it and not with Attiva.

Downtime is not the same as recovery

Attiva

Attiva leaves less to look at. No redness, no pinpoint marks and no peeling, which is the reason most people ask about it.

Attiva still asks more of you than it sounds. It is a small procedure with an entry point, an anaesthetic and swelling that lasts several days. The tissue can feel firm or uneven for a few weeks before it softens.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is the opposite trade. You look treated for a few days, then you are done. There is no incision and no anaesthetic injection.

Which to pick

Attiva

Choose Attiva if the only complaint is a soft jawline or neck. Especially if the skin itself is smooth and you would rather not walk around with visible marks.

Morpheus8

Choose Morpheus8 if you can see the problem in the skin. Acne scars, rough texture and large pores are not addressed by heating from underneath.

Common questions

Questions Patients Ask

What is Attiva?

A radiofrequency treatment that heats tissue from under the skin. A thin probe is passed through a tiny entry point, so the surface is never needled.

Which is better, Attiva or Morpheus8?

Attiva for firmness alone, with nothing visible afterwards. Morpheus8 if you also want the surface of your skin improved, because it treats texture and acne scars too.

Does Attiva have downtime?

Nothing to look at, but swelling and sometimes bruising for several days. The tissue can feel firm or uneven for a few weeks while it settles.

Does Attiva help acne scars?

No. It heats the layer beneath the skin and does not treat the surface, so scars and texture are unchanged.

How many sessions does each need?

Attiva is usually one visit. Morpheus8 is a course of about three, roughly a month apart, with results building over three months.

Are they safe on deeper skin tones?

Both use radiofrequency, which heats tissue rather than targeting pigment. That makes them generally safer across skin tones than light-based treatments.

Safety to keep in mind

RF microneedling can cause serious injury. The FDA has received reports of burns, scarring, loss of fat, nerve damage and disfigurement. Some injuries have needed surgery or other medical treatment. A few days of expected redness is not the full risk picture.

Choose a licensed medical professional trained on the device. Discuss the risks and other treatment options before deciding. RF microneedling should not be done at home.
