Clear and Brilliant vs Morpheus8

Clear + Brilliant is a light laser for glow and early texture. It has almost no downtime, and it is built to be repeated. Morpheus8 is a much bigger treatment. It is microneedling with heat, placed at a depth the operator picks, and it aims at acne scars, texture and early sagging. Do not expect the gentler one to do the bigger one's job.

Clear + Brilliant

A practitioner moves a small white handpiece across the cheek of a woman lying back wearing metal eye shields.

The Clear + Brilliant handpiece is small and glides across the skin. The eye shields are there because it is still a laser, even though it is the gentlest one in the fractional family.

Morpheus8

Close-up of a purple handpiece tip holding a square array of thin gold needles, held just above a woman's forehead.

The Morpheus8 tip up close. The gold pins are what carry the radiofrequency energy below the surface — the needles are the delivery route, not the treatment itself.

Side by side

The differences that matter

13 comparison points

What it is

Clear + Brilliant

A low-intensity fractional laser

It is the same technology as stronger resurfacing lasers, run at a much lower setting. It heats the skin without removing the surface.

Morpheus8

Microneedling with radiofrequency heat

Fine needles carry energy into the deeper layer of skin and release it from the tips.

How it works

Clear + Brilliant

Tiny columns of heated tissue

Untreated skin is left in between the columns. That is why recovery is quick.

Morpheus8

Heat released below the surface

The needles pass through the surface and release heat at a chosen depth. The pins are coated except for the last 0.5 mm, so the heat lands below the entry point.

How deep it goes

Clear + Brilliant

Shallow, but no figure is published

No published depth figure names Clear + Brilliant, so none is quoted here. It is the low-intensity option in this family of lasers.

Morpheus8

0.5 mm to 7 mm, set by the operator

The resurfacing tip is 0.5 mm. The largest tips reach 7 mm.

What it is best at

Clear + Brilliant

Surface smoothness, tone and polish

It is kept up over time rather than done once.

Morpheus8

Texture, mild laxity and acne scarring

Downtime

Clear + Brilliant

Short, by design

The treatment is built around staying presentable. No published study reports a recovery time for it, so no figure is quoted here.

Morpheus8

Redness, swelling and pin marks

In published studies, redness happened in every patient and swelling in about 30%. One study put downtime at three to four days.

Sessions

Clear + Brilliant

A series, then maintenance

Repetition is the design of the treatment.

Morpheus8

1 to 6, usually 3 to 5

Published protocols cluster at three sessions, three to eight weeks apart. That spacing is a habit carried between studies, not a tested dose.

Cost

Clear + Brilliant

No reliable published price

No medical society lists a typical price either.

Morpheus8

Self-reported average of $1,861

That comes from 124 patient-reported prices on one website, with small single-area sessions from $549. It is not a survey.

The at-home version

Clear + Brilliant

Home laser wands are far weaker

They put a fraction of the power into the skin, and they do not reach the same depth.

Morpheus8

Home rollers are a different thing

A roller or pen makes punctures and adds no heat. Heat placed at a chosen depth is the whole point here.

Who tends to be happy with it

Clear + Brilliant

  • Best for - Someone with good skin who wants steady polish without losing days.
  • The mindset - A standing appointment, not an event.

Morpheus8

  • Best for - Someone with a specific complaint: scarring, texture or early laxity.
  • The mindset - Fewer, bigger sessions, a marked week, and a change judged at three to six months.

What to ask if you are being offered Clear + Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant

There is a real gap in what can be looked up about Clear + Brilliant. No published treatment depth and no published recovery figure could be found for it. This page leaves those gaps open rather than filling them with plausible numbers. That is not a criticism of the treatment. It just means these questions are worth asking.

What the Morpheus8 evidence is, and where it stops

Morpheus8

Almost no published study used a Morpheus8 itself. The research behind radiofrequency microneedling was built on other machines. The evidence for the method is genuine. It is just not this brand's.

The fine print

Clear + Brilliant

No clearance wording could be identified for Clear + Brilliant. That is not a claim that it lacks one. Ask the clinic which clearance they are relying on, and for what.

A 510(k) clearance is a decision that a device is much like one already sold. It is not proof of benefit, in either direction.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is made by InMode. Its depth figures of 0.5 mm to 7 mm come from InMode's operator manuals, and 7 mm is the highest depth named in any FDA document for the device. Manufacturer labelling says sessions every 3 to 6 weeks. The self-reported average price of $1,861 comes from RealSelf, last updated May 2024.

Morpheus8's cleared wording names no cosmetic use. It reads electrocoagulation and hemostasis — surgical language for sealing tissue and stopping bleeding — from December 2019 (K192695). Coagulation or contraction of soft tissue followed in July 2023 (K231790).

Common questions

Questions Patients Ask

Is Clear + Brilliant just a weaker version of a bigger laser?

Broadly, yes — it is the low-intensity end of non-ablative fractional resurfacing, and that is the product, not a limitation of it. A treatment you can repeat without losing a week is a different proposition from one you have twice a year.

Can Clear + Brilliant do what Morpheus8 does?

Not on depth. Scarring and laxity are worked on in the deeper layer of skin, which is where a needle can place heat and a low-intensity surface laser does not reach.

Which hurts more?

No study has compared them, so this is clinical description rather than a measured result: the gentler laser is generally described as easily tolerated with numbing cream, and needling plus heat is the more uncomfortable of the two. Topical numbing is standard for both.

How many sessions of each?

Clear + Brilliant is designed as a series with maintenance afterwards. For Morpheus8, the manufacturer's labelling says one to six treatments, typically three to five, every three to six weeks; published protocols usually run three.

Is Morpheus8 FDA cleared for wrinkles or scars?

No. Its clearances read electrocoagulation and hemostasis, and later coagulation or contraction of soft tissue. No cosmetic use is named. Treating outside the cleared wording is legal and routine, but "FDA cleared" is not a claim about wrinkles or scars here.

Which is safer for deeper skin tones?

Neither has a comparison trial against the other. What is documented: radiofrequency heating does not depend on pigment the way light does, and in a same-patient trial radiofrequency microneedling produced fewer patches of darkened skin than fractional CO2 laser. Against that, Morpheus8's own clearance limits energies above 62 mJ per pin to skin types I to IV. Ask for a test area and conservative settings either way.

Which should I pick?

If your concern is general polish and you cannot lose days, the gentler treatment is doing exactly what it was built for. If your concern is scarring, texture or early laxity, a surface treatment will not reach it however many times you repeat it.

Safety to keep in mind

RF microneedling can cause serious injury. The FDA has received reports of burns, scarring, loss of fat, nerve damage and disfigurement. Some injuries have needed surgery or other medical treatment. A few days of expected redness is not the full risk picture.

Choose a licensed medical professional trained on the device. Discuss the risks and other treatment options before deciding. RF microneedling should not be done at home.
