Restylane Lyft vs Juvederm Voluma

Restylane Lyft is the more flexible choice. It is a firm gel used in the cheeks, and also in smile lines, the chin and the backs of the hands. Juvéderm Voluma is the longer-lasting choice in the cheek. It is built for the mid-face and can hold for close to two years, about twice as long as Lyft. Both are hyaluronic acid, both lift, and both can be dissolved if you dislike the result.

What it is used for

Restylane Lyft

Cheeks, and several other areas

Mid-face volume, the folds from nose to mouth, the chin, and the backs of the hands.

Juvéderm Voluma

Mainly cheeks

Built for the mid-face. It is the product most often meant when someone says "cheek filler".

How the gel is built

Restylane Lyft

Firm particles in a smooth carrier

You can think of it as fine grains held in gel. It gives strong support close to the bone.

Juvéderm Voluma

One smooth, blended gel

No separate particles. It spreads a little more evenly and feels smoother under the fingers.

Where it goes

Restylane Lyft

Deep, near the bone

Small amounts placed on the cheekbone, not near the surface.

Juvéderm Voluma

Deep, near the bone

When you see the result

Restylane Lyft

The same day

Swelling settles over about two weeks, and the shape settles with it.

Juvéderm Voluma

The same day

Same picture. Judge a cheek at two weeks, not at two days.

How long it lasts

Restylane Lyft

About a year

Juvéderm Voluma

Up to about two years

How much is usually used

Restylane Lyft

Often one syringe per side

Cheeks are a large area, so plan for two syringes rather than one.

Juvéderm Voluma

Often one syringe per side

Same. One syringe split between two cheeks is a small change.

Can it be undone

Restylane Lyft

Yes

Juvéderm Voluma

Yes

Side effects to expect

Restylane Lyft

Bruising, swelling, tenderness

Deep cheek injections bruise less than lips, but a bruise there can take a week to fade.

Juvéderm Voluma

Bruising, swelling, tenderness

Same list. Too much gel in a cheek reads as heavy rather than lifted.

Cost

Restylane Lyft

Priced per syringe

Usually in the same range as other branded hyaluronic acid fillers.

Juvéderm Voluma

Priced per syringe

Often a little more per syringe. Weigh that against how much longer it tends to last.

The at-home or drugstore version

Restylane Lyft

None exists

A hyaluronic acid serum holds water in the top layer of skin for a few hours. Lyft sits several millimetres down, against bone.

Juvéderm Voluma

None exists

Same limit. Nothing sold as "filler in a bottle" reaches the depth either of these works at.

Who each suits

Restylane Lyft

  • Best for — Someone treating cheeks plus another area in the same visit.
  • The mindset — One product that covers several jobs.

Juvéderm Voluma

  • Best for — Cheeks alone, with the longest run between top-ups.
  • The mindset — Pay once, come back later.

Common questions

Questions Patients Ask

Which lasts longer, Restylane Lyft or Juvederm Voluma?

Voluma. In the cheek it is usually quoted at up to about two years, while Lyft is quoted at about a year. Both figures are averages, not promises.

Which one lifts more?

Both are firm gels made for deep placement, and no trial has compared them. Where the gel is placed and how much is used matter more than which of the two is in the syringe.

Can Restylane Lyft be used anywhere other than cheeks?

Yes. It is also used in the folds from nose to mouth, the chin and the backs of the hands. Voluma is mainly a cheek product.

How many syringes will I need for cheeks?

Most people need about one syringe per side, so two in total. One syringe split between both cheeks is a small change that many people do not notice.

Can either one be dissolved?

Yes. Both are hyaluronic acid, so an enzyme called hyaluronidase removes them, usually within a day or two. Restylane gels tend to break down at lower enzyme doses.

Which is cheaper?

Both are priced per syringe, and Voluma often costs a little more. Because it tends to last longer, the cost per year can end up similar.
