Evolysse
Two products: Smooth and Form Both are hyaluronic acid gels. A provider injects them into and under the skin. Names such as Evolysse Lips and Evolysse Sculpt turn up in trade press. They have no FDA record and are not sold here.
Evolysse is approved for one thing: the folds that run from your nose to your mouth. It has two products, and published follow-up that stops at 12 months. Juvederm is the choice for anywhere else on the face. Its seven products have been approved area by area since 2006, and no trial has ever compared the two.

Evolysse
Two products: Smooth and Form
Both are hyaluronic acid gels. A provider injects them into and under the skin. Names such as Evolysse Lips and Evolysse Sculpt turn up in trade press. They have no FDA record and are not sold here.
Juvederm
Seven products, aimed at different areas
Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, Voluma XC, Vollure XC, Volbella XC, Volux XC and Skinvive. Each area belongs to a named product, not to the brand.
Evolysse
Hyaluronic acid gel with lidocaine
Smooth and Form use slightly different gel strengths. Both add lidocaine, a numbing drug. Both are crosslinked with BDDE, the same crosslinker used across the category.
Juvederm
A range of gels, soft to firm
Volbella XC is the lightest and Volux XC the firmest. The XC versions add lidocaine too.
Evolysse
Tested against Restylane-L, not Juvederm
One blinded study in 140 people compared the two gels, one on each side of the face. It was built only to rule out a difference bigger than half a grade. That is not a finding that either product is better, and it is not a proven tie.
Juvederm
A separate trial for each product
Most did not name their comparator. Volbella XC's lip trial ran against Restylane-L.
Evolysse
12 months
Plus 3 months after an optional repeat treatment. Photo reviewers found 65% of Smooth and 72% of Form subjects improved a grade at 12 months. At 6 months the same review gave 52% and 45%. That dip points to noise in the measuring, not a filler that improved with time.
Juvederm
6 months to 24 months, by product
It varies by product. Voluma XC ran 24 months, at the long end. Skinvive ran 6 months, at the short end.
Evolysse
Anything past the first year
There is no independent published research on Evolysse, and no record of how it behaves once on sale. It has only been sold in the US since early 2025. Nothing covers any area outside the nasolabial fold.
Juvederm
How every filler behaves long term
Small MRI series have found hyaluronic acid still detectable years after injection. That is the material still being there, not a continued cosmetic effect. The series are small and selected.
Evolysse
There is no home version
Evolysse is a gel placed under the skin with a needle. Nothing sold over the counter does that.
Juvederm
There is no home version
Lip plumpers mildly irritate the lip so it swells for a few hours. That is not the same as placing a gel under it.

Juvederm
Evolysse
The Evolysse trial reported the same people two ways. Reviewers scoring photographs found 45 to 52% improved at 6 months. Evaluators who looked at the same people on the same day, using a different scale, found 95 to 98%.
Evolysse
Evolysse is approved for one thing. The wording covers "dermal and subdermal injection to correct moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds (such as NLFs) in adults 22 years or older". Smooth and Form share that single indication. There is no lip, cheek, chin, jawline, temple or under-eye approval. Use anywhere else is off-label — legal and common, but with no trial behind it.
The word "dynamic" in the Evolysse wording is regulatory text, not marketing. Most US filler approvals just say "facial wrinkles and folds". It does not show that Evolysse works better in areas that move, because that comparison has not been made.
Juvederm
Juvederm has separate approved uses across about a dozen areas of the face and neck, from folds and lips to cheeks, chin, temples, jawline and the under-eye hollow. Each belongs to a named product, not to the brand.
Evolysse
Ask which Evolysse filler, treatment area and number of syringes the quote includes.
Juvederm
Ask which Juvederm filler and how many syringes would be used for the same goal. Include the follow-up and touch-up policy.
Common questions
Evolysse was held to the same standard as Juvederm. It went through the FDA's strictest device route, which required a controlled clinical trial before the gel could be sold. In that sense it is not an unknown quantity.
What it lacks is time. Some filler problems are rare or slow, such as inflammatory lumps that show up months after injection. Those surface in reports gathered after a product goes on sale, not in a 12-month trial. For Evolysse, that record does not exist yet. That says how much is known, not that there is a problem.
For a nasolabial fold, both are approved and neither has been tested against the other. The difference is in published follow-up: 12 months for Evolysse, against 18 months for Vollure XC.
Approvals, dates and wording. Useful for checking a claim, but it changes very little about what you do next.
Ingredients and makers. Evolysse Smooth is hyaluronic acid at 20 mg/mL and Form at 22 mg/mL, each with 3 mg/mL lidocaine. Juvederm runs 15 mg/mL (Volbella XC) to 25 mg/mL (Volux XC), with 0.3% lidocaine in the XC versions. The Evolysse approval holder is Symatese, with Evolus as US commercial partner; Juvederm is Allergan's. The trade names Cold-X, Hylacross and Vycross do not appear in the FDA record.
Approval dates and pathway. Both brands came through premarket approval (PMA). FDA approved Evolysse Smooth and Evolysse Form on 13 February 2025. Juvederm's first approval dates from 2 June 2006 for the Ultra line and 2013 for the Voluma line; every later Juvederm product was added as a supplement to one of those two PMAs, each with its own review and date.
